Narasimha - The Lion Man
Vishnu often reincarnates to teach
immoral kings a lesson. Within
this tale, a King named Hiranya
Kashipu was ruining the earth
with military exploits and thus
destroying the land. The bad king
was also persecuting his innocent
son named Prahlada, who was a
worshiper of Vishnu.
The evil king prayed to Brahma all
day and night for several weeks.
Brahma was extremely happy with
the devotion displayed and offered
the King a boon. Hiranya Kashipu asked to never be able to be killed day or night, inside or outside, by man or God. Brahma granted him his requests, and the king began to take over land, both in heaven and earth. Vishnu's devotees started praying for the King to be stopped, and Vishnu responded by taking the form of a half lion, half man.
At twilight, which was neither day or night, Hiranya Kashipu stepped through a doorway, which was neither inside nor outside, where Narasimha stood and ripped his heart with his lion claws.
